PartnershipsInAction Walk 2010

AKF Dallas PartnershipsinAction Walk

Thousands turned out for the 2010 Dallas Partnership Walk on Saturday, October 16 at Dallas City Hall Plaza, where Bombay Photography was honored to be the official photographer. In addition to the traditional 1K Walk, Dallas Partnership Walk had its first ever Youth 1K Run for children. Participants walked to demonstrate their support for ending global poverty.

Family, friends, students, government leaders and the media were in attendance in this fundraising effort to support the foundation. A good time was had by all with a variety of activities and entertainment throughout the morning. On the main stage were a number of culturally diverse performances with various Dance Troupes entertaining the crowds through traditional dance routines. The children were all smiles and giggles while enjoying the petting zoo full of goats, bunnies, chickens, gerbils and more.

The Village in Action was one of the highlights of the event. There, participants could enjoy interactive displays and hands-on exhibits that spotlight how the Foundation is implementing creative solutions in poor regions. This year's Village in Action focused on environmental solutions that have a positive impact on the poor and help them to be more self-reliant.

"Our Environment: One People, One Planet" was the theme for this year's walk. The motivation was to call attention to the vital need for environmental strategies that build sustainability and solutions to the growing challenges of climate change, deforestation, and resource depletion. Responsible leadership of our planet extends to all people and the 2010 PartnershipsinAction hopes to engage Americans as global citizens in the widening movement to improve the quality of life of our planet and its people.

This was the 16th Annual Partnership Walk held in major cities across the U.S. The Walk is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) to raise awareness and funds to alleviate global poverty and promote partnership between America and the developing world. AKF USA, established in 1981, is a private, non-denominational, non-profit international development organization committed to alleviating poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy.

The peace walk ended up with speeches, sayaris, poems & song sung on the memory of Bapu.

Walk to Help 2010, Irving, Texas

A little rain didn’t keep us from being at Walk to Help on September 25th, 2010.

Walk To Help is an annual 5k Family fun walk to raise funds for charitable hospitals and medical programs in areas of rural India.  These areas have substandard health-care and have a great need for medical supplies. The walked kicked off with ribbon cutting by Dada Advayananda. This year was a little wet but we still had a great time participating with our ponchos and all the umbrellas made for some fun pictures.

This year, Walk to Help was at Spring Trail Park in Irving, TX.  We were honored to be part of this impactful event to raise funds and awareness for hospitals in need.  Hopefully next year’s weather will be a little more cooperative but we will bring our umbrellas just in case.  Hope to see you there!
