Real Weddings: Neha & Dalvir's Punjabi Wedding - 12.20.12

For this #flashbackfriday, we wanted to look back at an amazing couple from December 2012. Neha & Dalvir celebrated their wedding on the week of December 12th, 2012. This was a traditional Punjabi wedding that took place in Lewisville, Texas at the Hilton Gardens Hotel. It is easy to see how in love this couple is and how much fun they had during their wedding. It was hard to find Neha or Dalvir without smiles on their faces!

Sunday, April 7th, Studio D Haute Couture presented FunAsiA Radio 2013 Beauty Pageant at the Courtyard by Marriott Dallas DFW Airport North/Irving. We love being involved with such a fun and wonderful program. As the official photographer for the FunAsia Beauty Pageant, we get the chance to meet many of the contestants and photograph each girl individually before the pageant. The beautiful and talented contestants aging from 13 and up competed for the titles of ‘Miss South Asia Texas’, and ‘Miss Teen South Asia’. Here are some beautiful photographs from the event!
Thank you the judges, contestants, supporters, and the FunAsia crew for making this year’s show a success!

A Fresh Gaye Holud

Arafath & Farhana celebrated their Gaye Holud* this last weekend. And while the ceremony was beautiful, we wanted to share these adorable photos of the fun foods that the bride's family took time to carve by hand. They had apple swans and eggmen with jalapeno hats. They took time to create these beautiful works of art that could easily be mistaken for one of those fun Edible Arrangements.

*For those of you not familiar with a Gaye Holud ceremony, the Gaye Holud takes place one or two days prior to the religious and legal Bengali wedding ceremonies. The bride is seated on a dais, and the henna is used to decorate her hands and feet with elaborate abstract designs. The turmeric paste is applied by the guests to her face and body. Turmeric is known to cleanse, soften and brighten the skin, giving the bride's skin the distinctive yellow hue that gives its name to this ceremony.

Handfasting

Whether we are watching from behind a camera or as a guest, Handfasting is a fascinating ritual in wedding ceremonies. The tradition has a rich history and can be traced as far back as the early Christian period in Ireland and Scotland, although, it is linked with many faiths and cultures. The practice is also where the term “tying the knot” originated. Handfasting can be performed as a betrothal, engagement or during the wedding ceremony. Handfasting can also be legally binding depending on the area of residence of the couple.
To perform a Handfasting ritual, the officiant will create a blessed space with the four corners representing the elements of air, fire, water, and earth. An altar with one large candle, representing the couple together, and two smaller candles, representing the bride and groom individually, are placed in the North position of the space. The bride and groom light the larger candle together from their individual candles to symbolize their joining. This part of the ceremony is similar in function to the American Unity Ceremony used in religious weddings.
Gifts, birthstones, and other symbolic elements representing air, fire, water, and earth, are also placed on the altar.
Next, readings and blessing from designated guests are read. After the readings, the officiant will call upon the spirit to bless the union and will tie the couple's hands together. The bride's right wrist is tied to the groom's left wrist. The couple then exchanges vows and rings and drink from a wine glass before their hands are untied. The untying of the wrists represents the couple's independent wish to be joined together.
The newly married couple is given an ivy wreath made of flowers chosen by their guests to represent their well wishes. The couple then leaves, traditionally, by walking under a floral archway while being sprinkled with flower petals by onlookers.
There are many ways to add a Handfasting ritual to a wedding ceremony. The materials and process varies from historical and cultural traditions. Although it can be performed a number of ways, each ritual is a beautiful recognition of two individual lives joining together steeped in culture and love.

North Lake Hills Home Owners Association

Bombay Photography had the pleasure to be the photographer for the North Lake Hills Homeowners Association gathering last week!  The turnout was great with local family and friends gathering together for all of the fun and festivities.  The local fire department came by for a visit and the kids were excited to get to see the big, red fire truck up close and talk to real firemen!   The kids also had a great time seeing the clowns, getting their faces painted and getting their favorite character or toy made out of a balloon!  The balloon swords were the biggest hit and sword “fights” provided a lot of entertainment.  Local vendors, including Gideon, Aatish Caterers, and Tanmai Jewelers were also on hand providing information and great deals!   Several local talents provided entertainment, but my favorite had to have been the children singing.   Everyone had a great time and received great ideas for the upcoming shopping season!  Several Certificates of Appreciation were also awarded to active citizens in the community.   We had a great time and know everyone in attendance did too!

Adobe CS5 Launch - May 25th

Yesterday I attended special promotional program launched by Adobe Inc., where hundreds of photographer, cinematographer, videographer from Texas area attended. The fact that I was the only South Asian in the seminar really amazed me and also made me feel proud.

I spent around five hours with the creative team of Adobe in the seminar which was very useful as it helped us to upgrade ourselves  with the latest technology in order to contend in today's competitive era. Not only that we also won the CS5 premium design bundle in the door prize draw.

On whole, it was wonderful program unleashing the power of Creative Suite Version 5. Better even got better with the additional and advanced features like Content Aware, new painting engine and much more.

Here is one of the coolest feature in Photoshop CS5 which I cannot wait to share with you guys. If you are into the photography, this is something you should not miss.

Here is the quick edit for you to demonstrate the power of CS5. You can virtually travel around the world without leaving the studio.:

.: Wedding in Houston :.

Wedding in the largest city of Texas (Houston) is always special for me. It always reminds me the wedding of Amy and Mateen, the most memorable wedding we covered in Houston. Our team really worked hard on their wedding for which they appreciated our commitment. From their admiration and support we are again fully charged up for the special in Houston to cover a wedding this year. Although there are many professional photographers in Houston as well, we are glad that the couple trusted us with our experience of over three decade.

The beauty of the city and the cuteness of the couple is enticing me to cover the wedding with my fullest effort.

.:Wise Decision on Wedding Photography:.

Few people think recession is over in United States. Other group of people believes that recession is still on its full phase. But what I believe is that we have learnt to adopt ourselves with the recession. One of the column in the site theknotinc.com helped me realized, how people has started adjusting their financial expenditure to get best out of it. Wedding Memory is the memory that cannot be compromised at any condition. Although it might not be viewed as useful, it's always feels good to refreshen those  unforgettable memories as the time passes.
Wedding photography is one time investment for the long term memory. But I can't believe few people are actually  compromising with their wedding memories choosing the wrong options. If you are one of them then this column [screen shot] from theknotinc.com is really useful for you.

Few more about the Photography

"The average consumer is largely ignorant of the criteria for judging photography quality, the most base their judgment on the subject's expression alone.  Therefore, if a mass market photographer produces a portrait in which the subject has a pleasing expression, it is a quality portrait-at least from the consumer's limited perspective. The challenge to independent studios, then is to position themselves so that prospects can identify enough tangible personal value to themselves to overcome the consideration of added cost. This should be done within a context that creates a demand for the product" (monteith, 17). But our aim is to "stand out in the crowd".

Learning Center for Parents and Children (LCPC)

Learning Center for Parents and Children (LCPC) is a nonprofit organization which targets the pre-school program for Ismaili Muslim children in Dallas at their social and spiritual center, known as a "Jamatkhana". Their program emphasizes an essential that public schools have tried to inspire for decades i.e. parental involvement.

“This is the secret sauce,” said Gulzar Babool during his interview with Dallas News, the national program director for the Ismaili LCPC. “It is what makes it successful.” The program at (LCPC) emphasizes early literacy and school readiness and “empowers mothers to assimilate in this community,” Babool added during his interview.

I have been volunteering my time and expertise to help the community since last four years. The team is very organized and it would be safe to say that LCPC is the one of the best team I have worked this year. I believe that the schooling system of LCPC is one of the best schooling system in the world as children spend their time with their parents along with preparing themselves for further challenges they will face in grade school . Interestingly, all the staffs including teachers and members are volunteers.

The whole event was amazing and nicely organized. The cuteness and the sweetness of the children made me real difficult to choose only few to tell the story so I have decided to give a link so if you are interested to see the whole event, click here to access the gallery.

Good Job LCPC team! Keep it up.

.: Anita & Rizwan :. E-Session

Dallas Arboretum and Las Colinas

We met up with Anita and Rizwan for their E-Session in Dallas Arboretum this weeks. They are getting married next month and we are really excited to be the part of this very special day.

Their photographic interest and their amazing chemistry along with their comfortableness and easiness encouraged us to snap the few stupefying shots. Anita's familiarity with the location was a plus point for us as we had a wider knowledge of how much the location had to offer. We were even lucky with some beautiful blue skies – something which has been very rare these last couple of weeks in Dallas!

Our Digital artist also had fun time editing their picture, transporting the couple to the one of the most romantic destination, making it one of my personal favorite snap.

In order to avoid the sluggish afternoon Dallas traffic, we had to abandon the primary location early to continue rest of our session in Las Colinas, my favorite area for the perfect photo shoot. We got few wonderful snaps in Las Collinas with natural lights and and wonderful color contrast. Anita was really looking gorgeous in the Indian outfit which gave the perfect punch for the paradisaic shot.

We had really wonderful time working with you guys. Our whole team is eager to capture your precious moments again soon.
Good luck with the final wedding preparations.

.: Iffat & Juby :. E-Session

Las Colinas, Mandalay Canal

Last Week I had the pleasure of photographing Iffat and Juby in Las Colinas. It’s not every day that I get chance to photograph one of the most beautiful and intimate affiars! During the photos session they were not only sweet and thoughtful, they really inspired us to upgrade our website and our blog. Because of their motivation and love we are upgrading our blog. Thanks to Iffat and Juby.

They were very helpful and co-operative during the shoot. Even the ever changing Texas weather supported us with the perfect weather that anybody could only dream for. Hard work of five photographers as well as the creative ideas from the couple really aspire us to snap some really amazing and natural pictures. I had real tough time choosing the top pictures for the blog.

Iffat and Juby, Thank you very much for such a nice experience working with you guys. I just cant wait for your wedding in June.

Here are the E-session Videos.

.: Nida & Amer :. E-session

Las Colinas, Mandalay Canal

Here is a sneak peek from last weekends engagement shoot down in Las Colinas, Las Colinas, Mandalay Canal. It was such an awesome day for a shoot, and even though we had to battle the wind, we were able to find some calm yet secluded spots and got some great shots.
Nida and Amer simply make a perfect couple. They are so comfortable with each other and you can really see how much they love and enjoy each other, and it is soooo refreshing. They were so friendly and so cooperative. It was fun shooting with them.
