Shaan & Keya's Navjote Ceremony

Last week, December 15 2007, I was with the Varia family at their Bangalow in Dallas, TX to photograph the Navjot Ceremony of two young Kids: Shaan and Keya. Navjot is the Zoroastrian ritual which happens before a girl or boy reaches maturity. Both kids, Shaan & Keya, were excited about the ceremony which started with thier holy bath and enchanting mantras. They put on their sacred shirt (sudre) and thread (kusti) which was followed by blessings from family and others who witnessed the ceremony. This religious function was followed by a reception. The reception, as expected was fun filled, and the guests will be talking about it for a while. I would like to share some of the images from the ceremony and reception.

Here comes Shaan and Keya after their Holy Bath escorted by two priests performing the rituals

Mom (Shernaz) and Aunt holding religiously important items

Novjote is usually performed by lighting fire

Priest performing navjote rituals

This is sacred thread (kusti). There is some rule and process behind tie and untie it.

I like the way the priest explained how the ritual was done, its importance and meaning. The guests really enjoyed it.

Shaan and Keya seems delighted after the ceremony was over. It was great day for them.

This is Varia family

Meanwhile ceremony was going on, I got few snaps of Reception Hall. Decoration was really amusing.
